ABOUT DR. CARA ANDERSON

PSYCHOTHERAPY TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY

Dr. Cara Anderson bases her work with clients on a strong collaborative relationship.  Together, client and therapist work to restore emotional functioning and health.

Dr. Anderson has found that facilitating a safe place, where honesty and acceptance are encouraged, allows clients to understand their behaviors on a deeper level.  Increased insight and self-awareness empower clients to make thoughtful choices, increase positive behaviors and direct their lives in ways that are consistent with their life goals and values.

EDUCATION

Dr. Anderson, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Honours Psychology with Distinction from Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia.  She completed her Master of Arts in Psychology at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology in Pasadena, California and completed her Doctor of Psychology degree (PsyD) at the same institution.  While attending Fuller, Dr. Anderson also obtained a Master of Arts degree in Theology.

EXPERIENCE

Dr. Anderson has provided mental health services at various outpatient settings.  Prior to opening her private practice in Bellingham, she provided long-term outpatient psychotherapy and case-management services to multi-cultural populations at a community mental health center.  Additionally, Dr. Anderson has previous experience in a school counseling center and in a pediatric private practice where she conducted neurodevelopmental evaluations.

Dr. Anderson has been providing mental health services in Bellingham since 2009.  She completed her doctoral Internship with Freedman & Associates and practiced with Pacific Harbor Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy for six years before opening her solo private practice. More recently, Dr. Anderson has moved into a space with two additional psychologists and they all providing neurodevelopmental evaluations.
